I recently purchased and set up a new Samsung 850 Evo SSD. Everything was functioning perfectly until I used Samsung Magician to optimize it. Now my system doesn’t shut down properly and there’s no way to undo the changes. Also, System Restore was disabled so I can’t revert anything. I reached out to Samsung, who advised me to perform a secure erase, which I’m reluctant to do. When I power off my system, it shows shutdown messages while monitors enter sleep mode, but the fans and HDDs continue running. My only choice is to press the power button, which worries me could harm my system. I’m using Windows 10 (64-bit). Are there any solutions I can try before resorting to a secure erase? Should I consider resetting Windows to factory settings while preserving my data? Thanks!

You decide whether to power down or enter sleep mode, then observe a brief pause for the fans to cease.

Absolutely turned it off, several times before now. I’ve left it open for a while and it still didn’t shut down.

I removed it right after noticing the issue and I’m still facing the same problem.

Well Secure wipe is the sole choice you have then, I think.

You could reinstall the operating system. It might erase all your drivers, but it’s a way to start fresh.

Ensure all your data is copied to a different storage device (avoiding the SSD), then reinstall the operating system.
