I recently moved from a 3070 to a 4070 so my girlfriend could use her old card as an upgrade for her. It’s been stable for a couple of weeks until yesterday when it froze at gen 1.1 even with heavy load—whether it was a full synthetic test, GPU-Z benchmark, or gaming. I installed the 4070 on my GFS PC and it functioned normally, reaching gen 4 speeds under stress and gen 1.1 at idle. The 3070 stayed fine, working at gen 4 under load and gen 1.1 at idle. My troubleshooting steps: used DDU in safe mode, reinstalled graphics drivers, changed the gen speed in BIOS, moved the NVMe drive to the chipset slot, re-seated the GPU and CPU with different PCIe cables, updated the BIOS from F37 to F38B, and reset the system without XMP. I’m running out of ideas and really confused because everything seemed okay just two days ago. Any advice would be greatly appreciated—please share your PC specs if you have them. I’ve been double-checking everything for a while now.

It's understandable, most commands return N/A or an error. I'm glad you're reviewing everything carefully. Your effort is appreciated—just one more tip would be great to help pinpoint the issue. I'll keep checking and will stay on the lookout for further advice. Thanks again! Also, I might try using the studio branch driver just in case it makes a difference. EDIT: The studio driver produced identical results as the game-ready version, but we're still stuck at Gen 1.1.

The 4x slot didnt work, it booted without a picture. I dont know if thats a problem but i know in the bios it has an option for which pcie slot to use for video. i tried gen 3 mode and it was still the same old song and dance i do not have any riser whatsoever its directly connected to the board. Im reluctant to think that forcing gen 3 would change anything especially with the gpu not reporting things properly not only in the CMD line you told me to run but also in gpuz's sensors tab. and with it working perfectly fine on another pc. im still racking my brain and trying anything that might help and if you have anymore suggestions please comment them here and i will try them

I explored setting my motherboard to Gen 3 in the BIOS again, and it functioned properly. After several restarts and power-offs, it performed well. I’m still puzzled about why it worked at Gen 4 for two weeks but now seems to be struggling there, yet I’m glad I can use my PC again. Thanks for your assistance and suggestions!
