I assembled a new PC recently, taking care to install only one drive during Windows setup and then adding another later. Everything functioned normally initially. After two months off, it stopped loading into Windows completely. The SSDs sometimes appear in BIOS but other times they don’t. I attempted to set both drives as the boot option, but a blue screen still occurs each time. Removing the disks where Windows wasn’t installed didn’t help either, and a bootable device warning appears. I’m also using a USB boot stick for a fresh install, though it’s not working well. Sometimes the motherboard fails to recognize it. Any suggestions or solutions?

I'm unsure what might have led to the motherboard issues. The PC was functioning properly when I first set it up, but after two months of inactivity it stopped working. I'm now creating a bootable drive for a clean Windows installation and have already adjusted the BIOS settings.

Have you considered swapping out the CPU? Remove it, inspect the socket area for any bent pins or debris that could cause poor or erratic connections. When reinstalling the CPU and cooler, ensure all components are firmly secured with proper pressure. A faulty connection at a CPU pin might be the root cause. Running a 'bench-build' by assembling the system on bare materials like carpet or cardboard can help identify any shorts from the case or chassis. What are the complete system specifications? Is it an Intel processor with integrated graphics or an AMD model? When diagnosing issues this way, aim to boot the system with minimal hardware—just a stick or RAM, no dedicated GPU and a single drive. Once operational, you can gradually add components until you pinpoint the culprit. Do you have a standard SATA SSD or HDD available for testing?

If possible, give it another try with a different PSU.

After many attempts, I finally managed to get everything working again once I turned off VMD. The original NVMe with just one drive functioned properly without any other disks. Now I’m worried about using the second NVMe—what steps should I follow to avoid issues?
