SPECS: - ASUS Prime Z370-AII - Intel i7 8700K - Corsair Vengeance 16GB 3000MHz DDR4 x2 - EVGA RTX 2080 I assembled my system in 2019 and it functioned well for a year until 2020 when I relocated. Space constraints prevented me from taking it with me, but three years later it arrived. The main issue is that Windows starts with a blue screen (ACPI BIOS error) and I can’t reach the BIOS settings. I’ve tried swapping drives, adjusting RAM placement, removing the GPU, and resetting the RTC memory, yet it persists. Removing the boot disk causes a black screen; during startup the DRAM indicator flashes briefly before fading, followed by the VGA indicator for a short time. All fans and lights operate normally. What might be causing this? I’ve inspected for physical damage and found none. Similar reports online suggest problems stemming from BIOS access issues. Before swapping the motherboard, I consider replacing the CMOS battery (which requires waiting a few days). Also, my power supply is rated for mains voltage/frequency in this country.

Ensure thorough cleaning of all contacts. Apply RAM and GPU connectors with contact cleaner. Allow it to dry fully before connecting.

Beginning with the bios battery makes sense too. It's becoming rarer now and more typical in OEM setups, though occasionally boards might fail to power up due to a dead battery.

I’ve cleared out the unused RAM ports, but I’ll hold off until I test a different battery. I’m checking the CPU now since I just re-applied thermal paste yesterday and don’t want to repeat that process.

Try it without a battery—should start up automatically. Time to save the BIOS settings, but it should still boot.
