Three days back the main power cable in our house caught fire from a short circuit caused by the geyser sparking. It was unusual since this should have triggered the MCB. The issue was resolved the following day, but before then I went to bed in the evening and checked—I didn’t see any display. Symptoms: 1. Computer powers on without screen 2. Fans spin for two seconds then PC restarts but still no image 3. After restart, case fans stop working while the CPU fan is fine. Things tried: 1. Reconnecting all cable connections (this fixed the case fan and quick restart) 2. Removing the GPU and reattaching it (no iGPU since I have a F-series CPU) 3. Swapping a single RAM stick 4. Taking out the CMOS battery to reset BIOS, my brother thinks it’s a motherboard issue.

Ensure your insurance includes coverage for that short to the main power inlet. Check if it also protects internal components. It seems the electrical issue was likely caused by overcurrent or short protection triggering a shutdown. Proceed with caution—some parts may damage valuable components during testing. I recommend shutting down the system and replacing it entirely.

no coverage, i didn't realize there was anything like this with electricity. when the power failed, my brother checked a certain socket and it damaged a light strip and a small phone charger, but these only happened on wall outlets without inverters. the tubelight and tv worked normally then. i'm wondering if that was my fault, since i connected my low-profile gt 710—usually loose—and tried to plug in my tv, which probably caused a short or burning smell halfway through.

This should keep it from being shortened, though the PCI lock is the reason.

I believe the PCIe lock worked, likely another issue is at play
