Hey! I've noticed my desktop shutting down unexpectedly. When it happens, the BIOS resets, which is frustrating since I run virtual machines and virtualization is disabled by default. I checked Event Viewer and it looks like Windows treats the shutdown as an anomaly (the last system crash was at 00:14:16 on 17/08/2023). My hardware isn't overclocked. I tried updating the BIOS to version F38E, but it didn’t work. It seems to only occur when I’m not actively using the desktop. Yesterday, after a long session, it shut down at about 00:14, roughly 40 minutes later. Full specs: OS Windows 11, CPU AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, PSU Corsair HX850i (850W), MB Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite, RAM G.Skill Trident Z RGB (2x, 16GB, DDR4-3600), GPU Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, SSD Samsung 970 EVO Plus. I think the issue might be related to the BIOS or power supply, but it also happens when the PC is idle. Any advice would be appreciated.
Enable CPU overclocking only if necessary, adjust settings in BIOS. Ensure PBO is activated automatically. Turn off XMP/DOCP and use standard memory speeds with auto-timing and default DRAM voltage. Set RAM to stock rates for stability testing; verify the system remains stable during idle. If it doesn’t power down, your memory profile may be too aggressive—manually configure timings. Look up 3600mhz settings in the BIOS documentation.
The system operates without any changes to the default BIOS configuration. It only powers off during idle mode.
If feasible, consider using a different power supply and check if the issue continues. Perhaps a friend can provide one. It may seem highly improbable, especially after a BIOS reset, but I believe it’s worth attempting.
I forgot that detail, you're correct. You might want to consider switching the CMOS battery.
I also attempted to replace the CMOS battery, but the issue persists. It seems I might need to get a different motherboard.
