Device powering off and restarting independently
My computer has begun shutting down on its own and restarting after I power it off again. I haven’t seen any unusual beeps or lights beyond the usual ones. The temperatures appear normal. After a full reset, it functioned properly for some time but then resumed issues after installing Steam, Origin, and several games. I’m confused about what might be causing this and prefer fixing it before investing in a new power supply or sending it to a repair shop.
Honestly, the PSU seems to be the most budget-friendly part, and keeping a backup is always wise. I get why you’d hesitate to purchase one impulsively—some setup issues or updates might cause problems during installation, leading to unexpected reboots or shutdowns. Regarding booting without help, it’s more complicated. Unless the BIOS has an RTC event set or Wake On LAN is enabled, the system shouldn’t start by itself. A faulty power button could also trigger this behavior. Another approach would be to reset your device as you did before and let it run for a week, then install Steam and see how it performs. If the problem disappears, try another app and use the computer for a week more. This should help identify which application is causing the issue.
Before I restart the PC, was everything already set up correctly and the problem still occurring? I plan to try a fresh PSU tonight. I’ll double-check resetting it again, keep it running briefly without any software installed, and see if it works. Also, I’ll examine the BIOS for any Wake on LAN entries. Is there any way to review logs or something similar to identify what might be causing the shutdown?
