Device on screen shakes when power cuts unexpectedly.
I was working on my computer while electricity went out, causing it to shut down suddenly. After turning it back on, my screen would sometimes flicker with black horizontal lines. This happened when something moved on the screen—like a wallpaper from Wallpaper Engine—or during gameplay, though it was less common when playing games. I attempted a fresh GPU driver reinstall, but that didn’t solve the issue. I also tried using CTRL + B + SHIFT + Windows to reset the GPU driver, but this made the problem worse. Now there are red flickering bars, and I found online discussions suggesting my GPU might be failing. I don’t think it’s likely since my GPU is new and seems solid enough for a sudden shutdown. EDIT: After restarting, the black lines returned, and I used Task Manager to check the flickering; it showed a display adapter problem. ChatGPT suggested it could be an adapter issue, but I’m not sure what to do next.
Let’s see if it’s not too serious. Have you tried switching the HDMI or Display Port cable? It could be worn out. You might also test another monitor. If that doesn’t help, check your internal GPU—especially if your CPU supports it. If everything works with the integrated graphics, then the issue might be with your GPU itself. There are many possible causes; your monitor could also be the problem. Other people often recommend trying alternatives.
I turned off the driver for my RTX 4060 in Device Manager and it functioned properly. After replacing the display port cable with an HDMI one (since I don’t have another port), it also works without flickering so far. It’s unclear whether the issue is with the GPU or the cable. Since the HDMI cable’s refresh rate is slightly lower, I’m unsure if I should keep using it or switch to a new display port cable.
Consider turning your device's driver back on and testing with the HDMI cable temporarily. If successful, switch to a different Display Port; it could be gradually failing.
