Device not attempting to recover.

I recently acquired my friend's old 6th Gen iPod Touch. It’s stuck in restore mode, and no matter what I try—switching to recovery or DFU—I keep getting the error 2015. I’m unsure what that means and don’t want to take it to an Apple Store, even though the battery is dead and they could fix it for around $80. Is there a simple software option to install iOS 12 without issues?

Connect your iPod to the PC using a USB cable. After restoring it, perform a web search for detailed instructions.

Ask your friend if they removed the iPod from their Apple account list. If it’s still connected, you won’t be able to use it. Just take it off their devices list to regain access.

They mentioned they don’t recall the purchase date or who owned it, but it remained in that place for many years. You can reset an iPod to factory settings and wipe the Apple ID, which is exactly what I need.
