Device may launch BIOS occasionally while sometimes displaying no connection at all
Hey there, I'm currently working on my sister's machine and running into something new. I saw that when I press the power button, the fans start spinning even on the GPU. I tried swapping out the CMOS battery and got the system to boot into BIOS. I also messed around with some BIOS settings but they didn't save and always brought me back to 'No signal' after restarting. I thought maybe the motherboard was the issue since sometimes BIOS works and then fails. I made a bootable Windows 11 media to try and get into the installation screen, but that didn't help either.
I noticed her PC has a 500W PSU, but Nvidia suggests a 600W for the 3060ti. My research suggested it could be that there isn’t enough voltage reaching the parts to power it up properly. I did some tweaks in BIOS last night and updated the settings, but nothing changed. There’s also a setting that shows an error during boot and prompts me to press F1 to enter BIOS for configuration.
She has a single M.2 NVMe SSD, but it seems like the error is linked to not being in Raid mode. You can check the image below with the screen that appears when I remove the CMOS battery and drain any extra power from the capacitors. She mentioned she’s never had problems before, though she used to experience random blue screens.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. She really wants her PC fixed so she can play Rust. Let me know what you think!
Welcome to the discussion boards! It seems the PSU model isn't the main issue, but it's still helpful to know how to pull the Sandisk USB and verify the boot sequence so the system prioritizes the NVME drive. You mentioned swapping the CMOS battery—consider performing a complete CMOS reset by consulting the motherboard manual for instructions. Also, test both UEFI and Legacy boot options, depending on your OS installation. Have you reached the installation screen? Or was it unable to even start? I don't see the 2000 series supported on the B550. Was this functionality available before? If not, I'd consider upgrading to a 5600x to check if that works.
I just verified it looks unbranded. I’ll upload a photo of the side with the label. The NVME comes first in the boot sequence. When the machine starts showing a signal, it displays the screen you mentioned. I’ll research how to fully reset the CMOS and try it. Negative. I attempted to adjust the boot order in the BIOS. Restarting and applying changes brought me to 'No Signal' at one point, though it worked briefly. She purchased this computer from Facebook Marketplace and has faced numerous problems. For details, I’m gathering information and notes from what I can find. She doesn’t know what CPU is installed.
Oof from facebook, hope your sister stays in the game from Rust, jokes aside. It seems PSU needs an upgrade, though it worked before. I wonder why updates to components now require more voltage than the PSU can handle. Ignore the RAID setup unless you're using multiple disks together. If you have an iGPU, try removing the GPU and connecting the screen directly to the motherboard—boot it that way. It does boot now, which suggests the issue is with the PSU. If it works, you're likely dealing with the power supply. Let me know what happened! Good luck!
I investigated this device and found it lacks integrated graphics, which adds another challenge. I'm quite puzzled since the error seems linked to RAID settings, even though I previously booted into Windows after a BIOS adjustment. My sister mentioned similar issues in past messages when her machine displayed a blue screen during regular use. I’m unsure if this has caused lasting damage. It might help to replace the power supply and see if it resolves the problem. Thank you all for your support with this matter!
