Device losing power during shutdown phase System experiences battery depletion while powered off
I power my laptop up to 50% and turn it off at night. It stays in shutdown for about 9 to 10 hours. When I restart, the system won’t turn on unless I connect the charger. I have two operating systems on my hard drive—Fedora and Windows. Right now I’m only using Fedora. I recall booting from Windows the next day worked fine even with a low battery, but now it’s stuck. I’ve been using Fedora for two months, updated to the latest kernel and running the newest version. The problem continues. I’ve tried turning off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth manually, but nothing helps. Also, trying init 0 didn’t fix it. Could you assist?
The battery is in good condition, maintaining optimal performance.
Refers to the real battery condition such as cycle count, left capacity, and degradation. Tools exist to show this data.
I can verify that and return again, but how about the identical situation with Windows? I’m not entirely sure, but I believe I was still able to boot and operate it even if I shut down at the same battery level. It’s been just two months since I started using Fedora, so I don’t think the battery condition has deteriorated so quickly that I can fairly compare the two.
I suspect this might be related to the battery condition. Another possibility is that the Linux system consumes more energy compared to Windows, which is typical due to certain optimizations and may not always prioritize power efficiency. Additionally, it could be a display issue where the battery readings are inaccurate, showing higher values than actual. This can be verified by observing the discharge while the operating system runs; if the charge drops steadily below 50% and triggers a shutdown only near 0%, that supports the idea.
Another angle is that the machine hasn’t fully powered off. My concern is whether this behavior could coexist with a shutdown—like fans staying on even when the computer is off, which would indicate a malfunction. In shutdown mode, power buttons should stop functioning correctly; if they remain active, it suggests the system isn’t truly off. This inconsistency might point to a hardware or software fault affecting power management.
