Hello everyone, I recently removed my cooler from the CPU to apply new thermal paste. Now I’m facing some unusual problems.

1. The monitor isn’t receiving any signal. I’ve connected it to another system and it functions properly. On the problematic machine, I usually use a DisplayPort cable through the graphics card, tried all three ports and even flipped the cable around, but still no display. I also used the HDMI port directly on the motherboard and on the graphics card (after changing the input mode on the monitor), yet there’s no signal.

2. The power button doesn’t shut down the computer when pressed. Pressing it doesn’t turn off the system; I have to flip the switch on my PSU, which is odd because it takes a short delay before fully cutting power. I’ve tried holding it for up to 60 seconds as some guides suggested. My motherboard doesn’t show any lights or beep codes yet, so those tips didn’t help.

Some strange observations since this started:
- The RGB lighting on my system doesn’t display the same colors anymore; it randomly resets to green during startup.
- My PC now makes a clicking sound periodically when running, and each time the GPU fans briefly reverse direction before resuming their normal operation.

Specs: GPU – RTX 3080, CPU – i7-9700K, RAM – 32GB DDR4, Motherboard – B365M DS3H.
I’ve moved the RAM to slots 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 4 just to rule out that as the cause. Any advice on resolving these issues would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Shift your RAM back to slots 2 and 4 — that's channel A. Or 1, which is usually fine. Make sure some boards fail if channel 1 isn't filled. Inspect all power connectors, the CPU, and the 24-pin connector to confirm they're fully seated on both the motherboard and PSU side. Also verify other connectors.

Thank you for your response. I attempted the changes you recommended, reinserted the RAM into the opposite slots, and confirmed all wire connections are solid, but the problem persists.

They suggested inserting a screwdriver into the power connector, which activates it automatically without needing to press a button. Unclear exactly what they meant.

Typically you find a front panel connector cluster at the bottom right of your mainboard, sometimes a bit higher up as well. The pwr_LED, pwr_SW, hdd_LED, and rst_SW are located on the top left pin, with the 3rd and 4th pins usually serving as the power switch pins. You can quickly connect them to try starting the PC.
