Device isn't functioning as expected.
Hello! I recently changed my GPUs from a RX 580 8GB to a RX 6700XT 12GB, hoping for an improvement. However, the results weren’t what I expected. In titles like ETS2 and PUBG, my FPS on high settings was decent but not optimal. For CSGO, my performance dropped significantly from around 200-300 to consistently under 200, even with maximum GPU usage and only 25% CPU load. It seems the situation might be linked to my Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, which could be limiting things. If that’s the main issue, it makes sense since I was considering a CPU upgrade anyway. Here are a few questions I’d like clarified:
1. Is the CPU truly affecting my performance?
2. Can my B350 chipset handle an upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5600X?
3. Are there other factors influencing my PC’s speed? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
PC details: CPU – Ryzen 5 2600, GPU – PowerColor RX 6700XT, RAM – G.Skill Aegis 16GB (2x8 @ 3200MHz), MOBO – ASRock AB350 Gaming K4 SSD, SSD – Samsung EVO 970 NVMe 500GB, PSU – Thermaltake TR2 700W. Link to PassMark benchmark: https://www.passmark.com/baselines/V10/d...8771962459
I completed the driver installation and even reinstalled Windows recently. However, upon reviewing the BIOS settings more closely, it indicates an update available for Vermeer CPUs—exactly what I’m aiming to upgrade to. Here’s the screenshot you mentioned.
I'm not updating my BIOS right now because some newer versions warn against it with specific CPU types. If you're okay with that, you can go ahead and update. Regarding chipset drivers, the screenshots show the warnings I mentioned earlier. As for the alternative, using a 5600G might be a better option.
I understand your needs. You're looking for a system capable of handling high FPS games smoothly on a 144Hz monitor. It should support popular titles at top frame rates. I'll also check the safety of updating your BIOS, especially considering the warnings in older versions about certain CPUs.
