I recently switched from a 100/20 mbit plan to a 250/25 plan in Australia, but speed tests are giving strange results. I’m using a Cat 6 cable and connecting directly to the router. On multiple sites—speedtest.net, fast.com, fiber.google.com/speedtest, and local ISP tests—I consistently see only 100mbit download speeds. My Asus router shows 280mbit, but my phone’s speed test app shows 280mbit. When I use the speedtest app on my PC, it still caps at 100mbit. Previously, with different plans, all sites used their full bandwidth. What’s happening now?
No problem. Connect the fibre box to a 2.5gb WAN port on the router. Use the 1gb LAN port with a PC port. The router thinks it’s a 1gb connection. It also doesn’t clarify why my phone shows full speed in speed tests, while the website lists 100mbit. Also, the fact that the Asus admin portal works at full speed suggests the cable is okay.
Review the error test carefully. It might be a port or cable issue causing many errors. I experienced a cable that generated nearly all errors in the network.
