Hello, just starting with troubleshooting... let me know if you need anything more. - 5820k @ 4.2 or 4.3... hard to recall. It was a conservative setup I assumed, most people would go with 4.5 - X99 Deluxe 3.1 motherboard, 4070 dual (also had a 1080ti on standby) - Corsair HX1000 (there was also a Cooler Master V1000 on standby, but it should be taken with caution since it was swapped to fix some BSODs during intense gaming a year back). I was playing BF2042 for about 2.5 hours. The game froze, no BSOD, went straight to black screen while the PC stayed on. I pressed the power button to force shutdown, and since then the PC won’t start at all—not even briefly before turning off, and then restarting causes it to reset completely. I tried a different GPU, switched PSUs with separate cables, removed RAM, cleared CMOS, replaced the motherboard battery (it got a little scratched but probably not critical), took the CPU out to check, and even tried power cycling. It still doesn’t boot. I listened for a soft buzz when I removed the CMOS while the CPU was off, thinking it might be trying to power up a missing chip. But I’m assuming it’s just noise, and I don’t want to spend too much time fiddling. The motherboard lights are all working normally, everything illuminates as expected...just instantly shuts down before reactivating. I checked for burn marks but found none. The CPU socket looks the same as always; it’s been this way for almost four years now. I don’t think it’s worth getting stuck on. What should I do next before giving up? It’s frustrating, but maybe saving a year for a new CPU+motherboard+RAM would help. Edit: After an hour of initial failure, I managed to boot into BIOS again. The only thing that stood out was the CPU temperature was around 50°C and climbing into the 60s. That gave me some hope—I thought it might be a cooling problem and needed fresh thermal paste. I turned it off, bought new paste, tried turning it back on, and it’s been cycling through power again. Odd behavior.
Turning off the 8-pin connector at the top doesn't reset it, and it won't power on either. I'll continue experimenting.
