My external ADATA 2TB hard disk isn’t functioning properly when connected to my laptop, which only has a USB 3.0 port. Using a USB 2.0 hub helps but only works with one USB port on that hub. It doesn’t work on other laptops with multiple ports, even though it worked on a different machine with both 3.0 and 2.0 ports. I’m using both devices running Windows 10 x64 22H2.

I think the laptop's USB connection isn't delivering sufficient power for the hard drive, whereas the hub's port works fine. The specs indicate it needs 900 mA, which a USB 3 port should supply, though this isn't guaranteed on mobile devices.

The USB hub lacks external power, only the laptop supplies the same voltage. Can we adjust the port address to a different one?

You can use a powered USB hub with a transformer to help diagnose problems. It seems a 3.0 model might not work backward.

Consider changing the cable. What exactly are you asking about? Does it actually function? Is there a nearby WiFi router?
