Hey, you and your friend recently assembled a new PC for him while you were on a video call. The old machine had a faulty DIMM slot. Here are the specs: CPU is AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, cooler is stock AMD Cooler MBO, RAM is Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4-3200, SSD is WD Black SN770 1TB, GPU is Gigabyte EAGLE Radeon RX 6600 XT 8GB, PSU is MSI MAG A750GL 750W 80+ Gold. After building it, the system didn’t power on even after a test boot. The case isn’t clear since it came with an old Amazon pre-build that lacked standoffs and screws. I suggested adding a shorting standoff, but even after replacing it and rebuilding, it still doesn’t start. No error lights appear, and the PSU won’t spin when powered. Anyone have any ideas?
I've attempted to guide him to manually reset the front panel power connections. He tried it and felt a click when touching the pins with his screwdriver. Make sure all connectors are oriented correctly—text facing down—and the +/- sides on the right pins. Since we haven't attempted this after addressing the short, we'll proceed with that next. @Skipple How can I verify his voltage level? Edit: The quote didn't render properly.
Attempting to turn it on without the standoffs could have caused the board to fail immediately. Possibly true.
Ignore the warning about the power supply lacking an input voltage switch—it's typical for older models. Confirm the power cables are securely connected to the PSU. On the MSI MAG A750GL, the motherboard power cable splits into two connectors on the PSU side; ensure both 10-pin and 18-pin connectors from the motherboard cable are properly plugged in. If either isn't connected, the system won't boot as expected.
Consider placing the motherboard in a separate container or pad (like cardboard) rather than inside the case. Updated June 2, 2025 by leclod
We're attempting to configure the motherboard pre-case now to check functionality without the enclosure.
We've verified that none of the parts are faulty. The PC starts up outside the case, but the new motherboard requires additional spacers than the case provides. When he purchased this PC years ago, the store didn't include the extra spacers or screws typically found with the components. Any advice would be appreciated.
