I upgraded from 4gb(2x2) to 8 GB(2x2 + 4) then the system didn't power on (no boot animation and it restarted). My specs are Intel I3 550 Intel Dh55tc motherboard, 2x2 Kingston kvr1333d3s8n9/2g-sp, 4 GB RAM axel rmr5030ef68f9w-1600. I tried various slot combinations (including dual channel), reinstalled Windows 10 again with the same issue, and used another hard drive with Windows 7 on the same hardware before.

It depends on whether the new RAM is compatible and functional. If the Kingston module is faulty or incompatible, the system may not boot at all. Otherwise, it might still work if the RAM is working properly.

It's a poor idea to combine different RAM types in one system. Stick to one kind and speed for smooth performance. I tried mixing two speeds once, but it failed. I picked the faster one, then the slower one couldn't keep up. Thay

The system starts up with both options, but I’m unsure if "boot" fits the context. It works with Windows without adding extra RAM.

Test the new RAM individually and run Windows to verify functionality. Switch to the old RAM separately and repeat the process. Try combining both at once; if it starts crashing, restart the system. The RAM modules are interfering with each other. If you can't locate the same module you have, upgrade by purchasing matching pairs and replacing all existing RAM. Mixing different RAM sticks is not recommended as speed and timing settings vary, which may lead to problems. One stick might require 1.2V while another needs 1.3V, etc., potentially causing issues. I assume it's an i3-550 model using DDR3; for a replacement, consider using two 4GB DDR3 sticks to replace everything.
