Hello. I recently acquired an Asus M4N75TD motherboard paired with an AMD Phenom II x6 1075T CPU. The previous owner mentioned some unusual boot configurations. My current problem is that my old HDD won’t boot at all—it prompts “Reboot and select proper boot device,” but with the new motherboard it functions correctly. On my main system (Gigabyte Z390), everything works fine. The previous owner advised installing Windows directly onto the drive using this motherboard, so I’m now installing Windows 10 to a boot drive and will later add the main drive to the system for file access. Any insight into why it’s not booting to the HDD? It already has Windows 10 installed.
Consider updating to a new Windows 7 setup. A storage device that worked once may not run on another system. This could happen if the boot manager was on a different drive or if low-level drivers don’t match. Generally, installing Windows 7 is quick and efficient compared to Windows 11. Also, check if your drive appears in the BIOS—if not, there might be a hardware issue to address first.
Windows 10 operates smoothly on older devices. It can function well even on machines significantly outdated.
Windows tries its hardest to start up on another device, though it isn't certain. On today’s computers it should usually function. With older systems you’re far more likely to have to reinstall everything. This is particularly true for earlier Windows releases such as Windows 7.
