Hey there. It seems your GPU was set to 8x mode because the Wi-Fi card was in the other slot. I switched it to the lower 1x slot right away. As expected, it’s now in 16x mode, but you lost your Wi-Fi connection. Opened Device Manager and only saw a network adapter with the yellow triangle icon—no Asus PCE-AC68 showing up. Confusing. When you change slots, do you need to reinstall drivers? Or is there another issue at play? I’m curious since I can’t find details about how the PCI slots on your Asus Prime Z370-A work. Could the card still be present in the other slot but not properly recognized, or did it just get reinstalled incorrectly? I noticed the power indicator was on when you were in the 1x slot, so it was getting power then.

I don’t get why you were drawn to networking. You’re really curious about PCIe lanes or drivers, not setting up connections.

Do you have any X8 or X4 ports available to test? It might not support enough PCIe lanes or power.

I’ve got three full-size slots marked as 16x and four 1x slots. The guide doesn’t indicate anything different. I’m working on reinstalling the driver now. After removing the old one, putting the card in the supposed 1x slot still lists it as a Network Controller in Device Manager, suggesting the slot might be getting a lane if Windows can detect it.

Consider trying the lower sixteen-pin slot instead, since it might have its own set of PCIe lanes.

Driver was just reinstalled. Now I’m connected to my network. Great!
