Device experiencing issues with USB connection.
I'm dealing with a situation where Windows falsely detects a new USB device connecting every half second, even though none is present. This affects only certain games and isn't happening during normal use. The only solution so far is disconnecting all USB peripherals. I've tried updating drivers via Windows Update and Driver Booster, reinstalling Windows, updating chipset drivers, and updating the BIOS, but nothing resolves the issue. Since I reinstalled everything, I suspect a driver update from Windows itself might be the culprit. Please let me know if you need more details! Recording 2025-08-20 182921.mp4
I've already completed that. That's what updating chipset drivers was about. I don't recognize a "USB" driver here. You can find more info on the mobos support page https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-Z490...ort#driver
I've watched the video and it does seem odd. It could be one of those cumulative updates that caused problems. Windows 24H2 has a reputation for issues since its release, so it's possible this problem is linked to an update. The main challenge is figuring out which update broke something—start with a clean install if you must. Don't upgrade until after the second Tuesday in September, when major patches are released each month. It might get fixed soon, either with the latest Windows update or the newest game patch. I'm curious about the specific game involved, but only knowing that it appears only during gameplay helps.
Yea I can see it being Windows being GARBAGE. The game is Hitman World of Assassinations. I find it EXTREMELY strange that it doesn't mess with nothing else than that game. I guess I don't hear a USB device connect and disconnect sound effect. I know it isn't my devices since they work on Linux and on Linux the game also works with controllers but playing on Linux is something I've tried and failed and I can't switch soon.
I’d consider using the finger against the window now. If it functions on Linux, that’s usually the biggest issue with Windows. For Linux gaming support, installing drivers isn’t necessary—just check the Steam GitHub drivers section: https://github.com/lutris/lutris/wiki/In...9e9101b309. Follow this quick guide for Wine dependencies: https://www.gloriouseggroll.tv/how-to-ge...ary%3A,use runtimes selectively when needed.&text=If apt-get complains about, steps (update and install). If you own an Xbox controller, try the XONE for your distro; with a PS controller you may need some research. Be aware that third-party wireless devices can sometimes fail, but wired options work fine. You’re free to play otherwise—this is just one of many alternatives. Keep trying, and be patient since Linux’s learning curve from Windows can be tough at first.
I tried Ubuntu, PopOS, Mint, and Kubuntu. The game was on Steam, so installation and running were simple. There were some issues though. Unknown.
Before diving into troubleshooting, verify if the game exists in ProtonDB. Review how users operate it on platforms like Steam—checking for common issues and solutions. Try launching the game with a particular Proton version; sometimes switching to "experimental" resolves compatibility problems. On your system, I can assist with Linux-specific challenges, though updates often complicate matters. Here’s the ProtonDB search for Hitman: open the relevant page for your game and examine how others run it from Steam. This approach is typical when standalone performance is inconsistent. If you need help with Windows, just let me know.
