Hey everyone
I just got a desktop built and attempted to overclock the CPU. All tests with Prime95, Intel Burn Test and OCCT passed, but in practice something starts to happen after a random restart. After working with the computer for an hour or two (sometimes less), saving files becomes slow. When I cycle through files in Windows Explorer, it slows down too. Opening a folder full of pictures can even make the explorer freeze briefly, returning to "not responding" mode for a few seconds. The issue isn’t constant—it disappears after a reset, which makes it hard to identify what’s causing it.
I’m hoping someone can help me fix this so I don’t have to wait for a folder to open.
🙁
System specs:
MSI X99A Gaming 7
Intel Core i7 6800k @ 3.4 GHz, OCed @ 4GHz
Gskill Ripjaws V 32 GB @ 3200 Mhz quad channel
MSI GTX 1080
Samsung evo 850 SSD 250GB
Toshiba P300 3TB HDD
Have you checked the task manager for clues when the problem occurs? Look for resource usage at 100% or near that level. Yes, I did. I monitored CPU, memory, and disk, but none exceeded 50% during the issue.

I reviewed the system again and noticed my HDD is at full capacity, while an SSD shows around 50% usage.
Currently, I'm transferring files from my HDD to my SSD, but the read speed reported in the task manager is under 10 MB/s, which feels too slow for a 7200 rpm drive.
