Background: I had my HP Pavillion laptop transferred from an old SSD to a new one. Now I’m encountering strange problems when trying to restart it. Whenever I attempt to boot, I see a "device not found" error. Pressing the power button and then restarting works fine, but shutting down by clicking Shut Down causes the system to stop without issues. This only happens during OS restarts or updates. I’m also stuck updating firmware, getting messages like "unable to install firmware" or missing device files. Need assistance with this issue!

I didn't handle the OS transfer directly. It seems to be related to a strange bootloader problem.

I recently purchased a new laptop and chose not to handle the transfer myself, so I relied on a nearby store. They apparently used the AOMEI backupper tool to move the operating system.

Does the previous hard drive remain inside the laptop? If yes, there could still be a bootable file on it from the clone that needs to be taken out.

I own the HDD from HP that’s still in it, and I’m using it for everyday tasks. Windows is installed on C: drive, while the SSD holds the SSD. I was unsure whether there might be any leftover boot files or cached data that need clearing, but I don’t know how to fix that or what parts to remove.

Access Windows Disk Management, review available partitions on the hard drive. Confirm there is just one intended partition present.

The tool you referenced usually included an option to choose between HDD and SSD migration, since the writing methods differ. I've experienced boot problems due to this choice before. The nearby store might still be using the default HDD setting.

I created three sections for your HDD (D, E, F). I'm not sure what impact this will have.

There seems to be no clear method mentioned, but you might want to check if a restart option is available in the settings. It can help avoid frustration.

Check if it appears in disk management and confirm there are three usable partitions.
