Hello everyone, I've been facing some problems with my computer's USB ports and connected devices. I purchased this machine new in early February from Microcenter. It comes with an MSI Pro Z690-A CPU running DDR5 WIFI. In recent weeks, I've noticed a few recurring issues. At first, it was occasional—every other day—I'd have my headphones (Arctis 7P+, Sonar) drop out, but the computer would still recognize them with the microphone working, yet no sound came through. It looked like a software problem at first, but it often coincided with brief loss of control over my keyboard and mouse, as if the system froze completely. I tried changing USB ports, which seemed to help sometimes, though it happened unpredictably. Unplugging and replugging the dongle didn't resolve it. I'd hear a confirmation sound when plugging in, but no actual audio. It might be that the dongle is connected through an extender rather than directly. After uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and ports, things improved for a while. I even swapped in a new keyboard (Apex Pro TKL, wired) to see if it helped. Then today, both my new keyboard and mouse stopped working mid-game. The only fix was unplugging and replugging them again. I'm wondering if this points to a hardware issue with the motherboard itself, given that both devices use USB 3.0 ports. Could it be something simple like a loose wire? Thanks for any advice!

System details:
- Model: MSI Pro Z690-A DDR5
- CPU: Intel i9-13900K
- GPU: 4070Ti
- RAM: 32GB DDR5-5600
- Power: 850W
- OS: Windows 11 Pro

It seems there may be a defective USB controller chip on the motherboard. Suggest contacting Microcenter for a return or replacement.

I experienced a comparable problem where my Steelseries headphones would sometimes disconnect, requiring me to switch ports to resolve it. Around once a month my keyboard and mouse would also disconnect, forcing me to repeat the process. Now that I reflect on it, it’s been several months since this happened (good luck). I’m guessing a driver update or a Windows patch fixed the matter. Still, I’d recommend ensuring all your drivers are current alongside a Windows update.

It wouldn’t seem consistent at all—no need to worry about being tethered to a screen when assistance is available.

It might seem inconsistent at first. The difference could stem from the chip's capabilities versus the operating system's expectations. The chip keeps its instructions in a buffer, and if the OS sends more commands than it believes it can manage, the buffer will overflow. This triggers an error that might lead to lost data on the USB connection. If you bring your setup to Microcenter, they can verify it immediately. They’ll fix any issues right away. Since you bought the system last month, they should be able to replace parts under warranty without problems.
