Hello, your observation is interesting. It's not uncommon for testing tools to display longer distances than the actual cable length due to factors like measurement methods or network protocols. It’s not necessarily abnormal.

If the cable meets the expected bandwidth, I wouldn't be overly concerned about it.

If it offers any comfort is that my Asus ROG STRIX Z370-I BIOS cable testing works perfectly. It keeps saying some pins aren’t connected, yet both Windows and Linux show full Gigabit speeds—probably because the setup differs from a Switch. Maybe it’s just due to being plugged into another PC instead of a Switch, but I’m not sure why.

If it offers any comfort is that my Asus ROG STRIX Z370-I BIOS cable testing works perfectly. It keeps saying some pins aren’t connected, yet both Windows and Linux show full Gigabit speeds—probably because the setup differs from a Switch. Maybe it’s just due to being plugged into another PC instead of a Switch, but I’m not sure why.

Thanks for the update! It seems to work well in practice, reaching up to 68 meters. The connection uses a ca6 Ethernet cable linked to a gigabit LAN on your PC and router, which reports 1Gbps.

Thanks! It seems unusual. Your motherboard and ROG Strix are both from Asus, and you're using the X99 with Gigabit LAN. Earlier, when you first connected it, the speed dropped to 100Mbps until you reconnected it properly, then it returned to full 1Gbps.

Usually I’d anticipate such results to be fairly dependable. As long as everything functions smoothly without surprises or delays, it should work well.
