I constructed a new PC a couple of months ago and I’m trying to play online games but it’s more complicated than expected. My average ping is between 700ms and 1000ms. I’m hoping to reduce it down to around 200ms by either upgrading my router or switching to a better internet service in my area. I currently use a NetGear WNDR3400v3 with Viasat (formerly Exede). I was expecting about 25mbps download speeds, but I haven’t reached over 17mbps yet and the monthly bandwidth cap is 60gb. The router supports roughly seven users at once, with one or two streaming videos usually on it. Thanks!

It seems you're using a high-speed connection, but it's possible your internet service provider is contributing to the slowdown. Your router likely supports LTE modem technology. With multiple users streaming videos, you might be nearing your 60GB monthly allowance.

Is your link through satellite? If yes, then: https://www.exede.com/blog/satellite-int...-big-deal/ Latency remains an unavoidable aspect of satellite internet. Yes, the connection can be quick, but a delay is always present.

You can check the path of a packet using a trace route (tracert on Windows). If you suspect your router is causing delays, bypass it by connecting the device straight to the modem and observe any changes in response time.

What services are available? DSL, cable, or satellite? I used to have that same router a while back. I switched it out since it only supports 10/100 ethernet. Note: Viasat appears to offer only satellite, which might explain the connectivity issues you're experiencing.
