Detected excess current on the USB port!
Hello, I just assembled my PC today. When I turned it on, the EZ debug displayed a bright red and orange light on the CPU and DRAM, which then shut off after a short time. The green boot LED followed the same pattern and also turned off. During this process, a black screen appeared indicating an overcurrent detection on the USB port. I haven’t connected any devices to the USB ports yet and don’t have a graphics card installed. This is my first computer build. Thanks!
Are you certain your hardware details are correct? Let me know your specifications so I can assist further.
Thanks, I’ll give it a shot. Your setup includes an MSI Pro B650M-A Wi-Fi, Ryzen 5 7600, 32 GB DDR5 Pro, crucial P5 Plus 1 TB M.2, and an Apevia 850W PSU. You’re planning to install the RX 7600 for the GPU. I chose the DDR5 path, 850W PSU, to stay ahead of trends. I’m aiming for a 7900X in about a year. Also, the 8000 series processors are confirmed compatible with the AM5 platform, so I’ll grab one when they’re released.
Recommend disconnecting all devices and restarting with the least hardware. If the USB alert persists, the motherboard may be faulty.
Unless you made a mistake while working with the motherboard, damaging it is extremely unlikely unless you're building a computer with it. This is meant for its proper purpose. If you purchased from Amazon and have time before the return period, reach out to them for an exchange or refund. The likelihood of receiving two faulty motherboards in a row is very low. Good luck!
