i was researching a microphone that doesn’t require headphones, ensuring it won’t capture game audio or keyboard sounds. since i have limited knowledge about microphones and some suggested models could pick up a lot of background noise, i wanted to avoid wasting money or getting an unsuitable one. before purchasing any random mic, i thought it would be wise to get some advice. i plan to use it mainly for voice chats like discord, and i’d really appreciate the ability to use a mic without wearing headphones. i’m not aiming to spend a lot, perhaps around 100 dollars, and having an arm to mount it on my desk would be perfect. this would allow it to stand on my desk while sitting in front of one of my monitors.

There are personal factors to consider about acceptable background noise and how your voice is perceived by others. Practical aspects like available space for the microphone, stand, and cable routes should also be taken into account.

I would not use external speakers if you are going to be using a mic, use headphones. Even omnidirectional mics will pick up extra sound.
I use a Blu Snowball (the higher end one that can be directional), and a mechanical keyboard, no issues with the keyboard noise bothering anyone. It just sits on the desk without a stand, does not get in the way of the screen.
