Returning to the Original Desktop Configuration
The steps I took led to the issue, but I wasn’t successful. Initially, my default file save location was set to OneDrive, which had been relocated to an I: drive for a while without causing problems.
I tried adjusting the default settings by using the provided instructions from the support page:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutio...windows-11
Specifically, I set I: as the default file save location.

What occurred was unexpected. All folders and files appeared on my desktop again, though they were not shortcuts—they were full directories. They functioned correctly, but I wanted to keep a cleaner desktop layout. Windows 11 prevented me from restoring the OneDrive folder as the default location.
I attempted to create a desktop file in my user directory, but W11 refused to copy data there.
I’m using W11 Pro - v23H2, build 22635.2700, and it generally works without issues.
A clear guide or instructions would be very useful.
By the way, I’m completely backed up.

Finding and setting up a system restore point in Windows 11 is essential before using it. Creating one ensures you have a backup option. Running the restore process can help identify any previous saves from just before the folder move. You might want to create a folder on I: for simplicity and to avoid extra hidden files. Is a full drive necessary?
