Desk fell, laptop slipped from the table and hit the ground, won't start.
The instructions clarify the situation, describing how my desk leg collapsed and caused items to fall. Based on what I’ve observed, everything appears functional except for a VGA boot failure. I’ve tested various fixes like reseating RAM, cleaning the GPU, and using a different PCIe slot. My RTX 3080 with waterblock still won’t boot or send video signals. I’m considering alternatives to avoid purchasing a new graphics card. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Carefully examine the PCIe edge connector section on your GPU for any breaks. If you didn’t use a protective brace, the full water block might have cracked due to the impact.
I checked it yesterday and everything seemed normal—no scratches, no dents, and the connector area was clean. I’ll re-drain and inspect again, hoping it’s just a lane issue. I also refilled the loop to see if that resolved anything, but I’ll try again later. Any suggestions on how to confirm the card is fully dead?
Was die GTX770 im Haupt-PCI-Slot funktionsfähig? Hast du den 3080 in der Reservekarte ausprobiert?
Looking back, I realize I should have acted sooner but lacked the necessary tubing to get the tube to reach the lower PCIE slot. I was hoping a reseat would fix the problem, so I’m planning to try again later after acquiring some new water cooling equipment.
There is a chance you just busted the PCIe slot and nothing else. Let us know!
If nothing works, examine the GPU die (or main chip) for any signs of damage. By gently taking off the water block and thoroughly cleaning the thermal paste, you should see the exposed GPU die. It should appear as a silver-black mirror with no cracks. If the die looks fine, the issue might lie elsewhere—such as the power regulator or another important component. This can be tricky to identify without magnification. Good luck!
Thanks for your assistance. I connected it and placed it in the lower PCIe slot but didn’t get a boot. My previous GPU worked from that location. I think something broke and it’s completely damaged now, so I’ll replace the GPU tomorrow. Appreciate your help again.
