I checked biosmod.com but found nothing useful. I limited my search since I’m okay with an i5 2400 instead of a C2D E7500.
It’s better to avoid messing with components that could ruin your PC, right? The -2600 model is already available for $75 at the lowest stock price. Rather than jumping to it, I’d think about investing in a third-gen Ryzen 3 and the necessary board and RAM. It’s more expensive, but using an LGA 1155 setup in 2020 doesn’t seem worthwhile.
I’m just focusing on light games, so I probably won’t need to play much. I’ll likely tackle around five titles like Borderlands 2, Apex, FO:NV, COD WaW, and Minecraft Bedrock.
I understand your perspective. If you're satisfied with the i5-2400, I'd keep it until you're prepared for a complete upgrade to a more recent system. However, if not, an i7-2600 becomes a strong choice. You don't have to replace it soon if you're not planning a full upgrade anytime soon—better than a Sandy i7.
I own a Xeon E3-1270 in a 790 SFF motherboard. The processor was detected by the BIOS (version A22) smoothly. Installed four 8GB DDR3 modules (totaling 32GB) without any problems.
