Hello, I just purchased a new Dell monitor that supports 4K at 120Hz. I connected it to my laptop via the HDMI 2.1 port using the provided cable. However, it only shows 4K at 60Hz, while 120Hz appears at 1440p. When I switch resolutions in Windows, the monitor emits a loud buzzing noise that disappears after a short time. Could this be related to the cable or settings? The label on the cable says 'ultra high speed,' which should match HDMI 2.1.

did you tinker with the IO on your monitor? maybe there's an option to "activate" the 120hz otherwise i would suggest to buy a DiplayPort 1.4 cable from amazon and test if the issue persists, it could be a monitor issue or a cable issue. the loud buzz though it's NOT a good sign to start with

I adjusted the monitor settings without success. 120 hz appears as an option in Windows, though it’s marked with an asterisk. Dell support recommended using DisplayPort for better performance at 4k 120hz, which is confusing since the product claims compatibility with both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4. I might need to purchase a DisplayPort cable to test it further.

This display also works with 10-bit resolution, but it isn't turned on automatically—it requires adjusting settings in the graphics card control panel. You might want to look into setting the refresh rate through the card's configuration. Also, does this monitor require a specific driver? You may need to download one.

Is the laptop's GPU capable of 120Hz at 4K resolution?

You have an Intel Arc 140V with a 16 GB GPU, which isn't particularly impressive but can handle up to 8K at 60 frames per second.

Adjusted the display settings to 10 bits, which limited the output to 4K at 30 Hz. Fascinating. Added the extra Dell drivers for the monitor, but it didn’t resolve the problem.

From my research, it appears Intel Arc is limited to a 60Hz refresh rate: https://hmc-tech.com/gpu/intel-arc-140v-2000mhz

I resolved the issue with the DisplayPort 1.4 to USB-C cable, which now supports 4k at 120 hz. The HDMI 2.1 port remains unresponsive. Appreciate your assistance!
