I recently attempted to delide a 760k and made significant mistakes, but I plan to try another one. I'm curious about the expected improvement or if it won't be as advanced as Intel's delidding process.

A bit of temperature adjustment could help if you're lucky. AMD doesn't face the same problems as Intel does. You should only consider removing AMDs APU because the AM3/4 CPUs are soldered onto the IHS. I wouldn't expect the big improvements you get by taking it off. It depends on whether a few degrees really matters for you.
