Delay in mouse actions during gaming sessions
Hello everyone. I'm not sure what's going on here. My Acer Swift 3 runs well, but when I play certain games—especially those with high graphics or size—I notice a noticeable lag in mouse movements. I only play games like GTA5 and Genshin Impact that are quite demanding, while other titles range from light to old-school 2D games. I don’t have a large sample size; most of my gaming stays within the lower end of performance. Overclocking hasn’t helped much, and I’m not an expert on it. It seems to work for Genshin Impact but not for GTA5, which I haven’t played in years. I could try overclocking all the time, but I live in a hot climate and can’t keep the AC running constantly. My old Acer Aspire 5 from 2014 doesn’t seem to have this issue, though it’s not ideal since it’s slow. My son uses it for school on an HDD, which causes long load times anyway. I’m wondering if there’s another way to fix this without overclocking. TL;DR: mouse delays in intense games usually disappear after overclocking, but that won’t work on my slower, older machine. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.
What kind of frames or performances are you experiencing? Have you experimented with a mouse that offers lower latency? In these more demanding games, you might notice reduced performance leading to input lag, since the game evaluates each frame individually and only registers new inputs. A rate of just 15 fps will be significantly worse compared to 60 fps. Overclocking seems to be improving things, but it’s likely enhancing your results.
You're experiencing noticeable delay between your actions and the screen's response. This often stems from low frame rates, indicating potential hardware limitations. It might be due to the laptop's specifications or the motherboard's capabilities. Overclocking isn't recommended as cooling remains insufficient for gaming performance. Adjusting graphics settings or resolution could help resolve the issue.
Shut off your mouse control manually or just disconnect and reconnect it. A connection issue could occur. Edited April 3, 2021 by LogicalDrm
Yes, I checked GTA settings. VSync is not available there, but you can adjust other display options if needed.
I adjusted the in-game settings to 30 for smoother performance. Lowering it seems to cut down mouse lag and avoids a stuttering feel. I’m aware of what looks like low frame rates—like the experience in GTA5 on my older laptop—and it’s probably around 23-30 fps. I’m comfortable using this setup across Windows or within the game on my slower machine. I just want to keep the system stable for a while.
