Delay in computer/mouse and keyboard performance
Delay in computer/mouse and keyboard performance
I'm struggling a lot with my high-end setup for nearly half a year. My PC was perfect from the start—no lag, smooth input, everything working as expected. But in March this year, after a long night shift, I woke up and found my mouse and keyboard acting strange. It felt sluggish, unresponsive, especially when moving around or playing games. I tried fixing it by reinstalling Windows, swapping parts, changing the power supply, even moving houses, but nothing helped. Eventually, I sold the machine, thinking something was seriously wrong.
Now I’m building a new one with updated components listed below—excluding the PSU and monitors. I’m still hoping for a fix, but it’s not working. The gameplay feels off, especially in CS:GO at a competitive level. The input lag is so bad it makes clicking feel like a new experience. Even though my FPS and refresh rates are stable, the delay ruins the experience. It also affects BIOS setup and installation.
I checked power calculations from different sites—my PSU was rated 850W, but the recommended for this build was around 585W, while another site suggested 750W or more. I tried a new calculator from Newegg, but it still said 800-899W. I’m considering upgrading to a 1000W PSU, but I don’t want to replace my current one just yet.
I also kept the same monitors and RAM, only changed the GPU and motherboard. The issue persists, and I’m running out of ideas.
I faced a similar issue and looked into the mouse drivers. There were two identical drivers installed, possibly because I used the same Logitec mice on my PC at times (Windows 10). I removed one driver, extracted the BT USB dongle, reinserted it, and the lag disappeared. Make sure your drivers are up to date.
I considered a few possibilities, but it seems to be unrelated. The main concerns are that both displays might be defective or the power supply unit could be faulty, as those are the components I haven’t altered since assembling my second PC.
I purchased a new 1000W PSU (Seasonic Focus Plus SSR-1000FX) but the issue persists. I still face input lag during games, on my desktop, and in the BIOS. The mouse feels sluggish, unresponsive, and moves inconsistently. All drivers have been updated—GPU, chipsets, BIOS, sound, etc.—yet the problems remain. My only choice is to swap out my old 144Hz monitor, which I haven’t changed. I’m unsure if an older 144Hz display could cause these symptoms, but I’ll try a new one to see if it improves things.
I explained the situation in the text, building my first PC in September 2021 with various components. After a year of smooth operation, a sudden issue appeared. I quickly noticed the problem because my monitor only displayed 280hz, and I was familiar with its normal behavior. Even after replacing all parts—including a new motherboard—I still faced the same issue. I tested different mice and keyboards without success. The question remains: is it a faulty USB port or something else? Thank you.
Sure, let's go through this step by step. I've updated everything except the power supply unit and the display cable/monitor. I'm focusing on your current USB devices and will address any concerns about the PSU and monitor later.
You're asking about:
- Which USB devices you currently use
- Whether you have replaced any storage drives, USB sticks, or similar items
- The status of Gigabyte PSUs (I'll note they aren't reliable)
- Your plans to test with an HDMI cable to see if issues improve
Please answer the questions below so I can better understand your setup.
I added all storage devices and USB sticks. I purchased a brand new 1TB M.2 drive and a 64GB USB stick. The Gigabyte 850W PSU was swapped out for the SEASONIC 1000W Focus Plus SSR-1000FX. My ZOWIE monitor from BenQ XL2411P with a displayport stayed connected, but I tested various DP cables and an HDMI cable that supports 144Hz—still no improvement. The monitor hasn’t been changed yet, though I plan to update it soon. The only peripherals connected are my mouse (Razer DeathAdder v2 mini), keyboard (Royal Kludge RK84), headphones (HyperX Cloud 2) and a USB microphone (FIFINE K669B). No other devices are plugged in. I’m hoping this helps with your issue.
yes you did answer everything/ a lot of what i asked. That's a lot of usb devices for sure... and this is connected?? ok i mean, the point is you need to remove *all* usb devices, at least external ones for now. you can do this 1 by 1 or all at once, shouldn't matter. i would definitely start with that usb stick, remove it... see if anything changes... and then remove every other usb device as i said, don't put the other ones back until the issue is resolved. buy cheap cable bound replacements if you need to... again, point is usb devices need to be not connected to the pc... *if* its fixed you can put them back 1 by 1 to see which one, or which port causes the issues. And also try to connect 1 monitor only with a hdmi cable (dual monitor can sometimes cause all sorts of issues, so that needs to be tested too) Thats all i can think about right now, and i know its not an easy task, but you should do all those things to see if any resolves the issue, its basic troubleshooting (just the hardware for now) i really kinda think it might be that usb storage, but then you probably tried that already... but either way it all needs to be tested systematically...
