Dedicated streaming computer for smooth performance.
Hello everyone! A friend is offering his PC, and I was curious about the value if I wanted to use it as a second machine for streaming. The asking price is 450, but I think I could negotiate a lower amount. Thanks! Hardware includes an Intel Core i5-7400 processor with 6M cache, up to 3.50 GHz RAM (8GB), an 1TB HDD spinning at 7200RPM, a 4GB EVGA GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, and a 500W ATX power supply. It runs Windows 10 Home and supports WiFi plus Bluetooth.
Deal not worth much on the system. I’d keep it under $250, though I’m used to spending less and sometimes use systems for side projects. Still, a dedicated streaming PC isn’t always practical. Thanks to powerful CPUs and Nvidia’s NVENC encoder, streaming from your main rig is usually better. You’ll need a capture card and the right setup, but upgrading your main machine or using NVENC would be more cost-effective.
Do you have enough capacity to cover the costs of the system and the capture card, which adds another $100-150? Could you upgrade your own graphics card with the same budget? A dedicated streaming rig is worth it mainly when you’re producing for multiple PCs or consoles, recording extensively, or when your content demands high video quality.
