I wonder if it's worth taking the risk to overclock this GPU, given its age, but I'm planning to get a new computer soon. The card is a gainward GT 610 with 2GB of memory. Other specifications include an Intel Core Duo Q8400 and 4 GB of RAM. This card is also quite old—about 1.5 years, though I don't know how long it's been used. I bought it from a computer store when I was inexperienced. Should I consider applying new thermal paste or not?

What games are you playing? It's hard to believe an overclock would significantly improve that card's performance in modern games. I think it might only cause issues if temperatures rise too much, but I doubt it would make a big difference unless it led to extreme heat. If the overheating is because the thermal paste has dried out, I'd replace it. Otherwise, swapping the paste wouldn't help.

Not worth it, an additional 10% performance boost on this isn't much.

overclocking is okay if it reaches safe limits, and sure, use thermal paste.

What games are you playing? I don't think an overclock will really improve that card's performance in modern games. I doubt it would cause any harm unless temperatures skyrocket, but I can't see it doing much for you. If it's overheating because the thermal paste is dried out, I'd replace the paste if temperatures are normal—it wouldn't help otherwise.

I'm playing various games, especially the latest ones that can't even run in modern titles. Mostly I stick to CS GO and "chill" games like Civilization 5 and other city builders.

I'll check the temperatures but keep experiencing lag spikes in CS GO and other games.

What games are you playing? I cant imagine an overclock will really do much to help that card perform well in modern games, I doubt it would hurt the card unless it caused temps to skyrocket but like I said I cant see it doing all that much for you. If its overheating due to dried out thermal paste I would replace the paste if temps are fine replacing the paste wouldn't do anything.
Im playing all kinds of games, the most modern games it cant even run.
So i am mostly bound to cs go and "chill games" as civ 5 and other city builders.
ill have a look at the temps but i kept getting lag spikes in cs go and other games.
You can try it but im doubtful it will help with your performance issues in any noticeable way. But give it a shot if you want, check your temps first.

What games are you playing? I can't really think an overclock will make much difference in helping that card perform well in current games. I doubt it would actually help unless temperatures get extremely high, but honestly I haven’t seen it doing much for you. If the overheating is because the thermal paste has dried out, I’d replace it. Otherwise, swapping the paste won’t fix anything.

I’m playing a variety of games, especially the latest ones—it barely runs.
So I mostly stick to CS GO and "chill" games like Civilization 5 and other city-building titles.

I’ll check the temperatures, but I’ve been getting lag spikes in CS GO and other titles too.
You can give it a try, but I’m not sure it’ll noticeably improve your performance. Still, give it a shot if you’re curious, and make sure to monitor your temps first.

Thanks for answering so quickly and in depth, man. Appreciate it.
