I'm just starting out with my first PC and I'm torn between getting the GTX 960, which offers free screen capture via Shadow Play, or the R9 390 that works better but costs more. Which one would be more valuable for me?

Initially verify if your PSU supports the required +12V rail for either component. The R9-390 consumes 275W, while the GTX 960 is a 120W unit (TDP). Check the comparison details for more info.
