Debate over the modem issue
I've noticed Comcast upgraded my node to support 24 channels downstream, up from 16 before. I switched from the SB6183 to the SB6190 to make use of this change. My concern is that I'm consistently experiencing worse ping with 24 channels compared to 16, despite both modems having strong and similar signals (around .5 to 1.0). The SNR looks good, but the upstream power seems to be the issue. The 10 ping remains higher in at least one repeatable situation. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Your previous ping was [insert value]. Would you like me to adjust the DNS settings?
Ping stays in the low 20s for sb6183 and mid 30s for sb6190 in PubG. Switching between them shows about 10-15 ping difference each time, roughly five switches. Speed tests look similar. I also tried on black ops 4, but the ping varies too much to set a reliable baseline.
It seems the cm700 and cm600 are currently priced identically on Amazon.
Due to several problems linked with the Intel Puma 6 Chipset, it’s best to steer clear of these modems. Many users have experienced disconnections and service interruptions because of this issue. Keep in mind that only these models are impacted, and they shouldn’t damage any manufacturer’s reputation. It appears other brands have switched to different chip sets in newer devices. If you purchased one of these units, consider researching possible class action claims.
Understood, now it makes sense for the price to stay consistent. I might keep my SB6183 for now.
