Hello, in three years I plan to enroll in a computer science degree program. I already have some ideas (I’m familiar with Python and Java). At the moment, I need a computer, and my options for the future are two:
1) Buy a fixed PC for €1000 (Intel core i5-12600k) so that in three years it can handle the requirements of the entire computer engineering course, and keep it in my future apartment. I also want a laptop in three years to use during lessons.
2) Purchase a laptop now, as it’s sufficient for the calculations I do on my current PC, and keep it for the whole degree, hoping it will still work well in the second and third years.
What do you think about these possibilities? I’m open to any advice.

Desktop systems advance more quickly but offer minimal upgrade options. Choose the latest laptop available.

Thanks, a PC desktop can last about 8 years, which is the time frame that would work for me. Since I have no experience, I ask...

8 years or about a week and a half is the typical timeframe, but it's impossible to foresee when mechanical failures will occur. A single lightning strike could destroy all electronic devices in your home. Therefore, it's essential to maintain an automated backup routine with a copy of your crucial data stored off-site.
