I don’t remember doing that, but I might try anyway. It’s always helpful to keep backup components handy.

You've got nothing to lose by trying plus you'll gain some experience about it. That's always a good thing to have, esp if the piece you're trying to fix is already dead "As Is", so there isn't any real loss if you do mess up. What you learn today by doing it could well save your bacon tomorrow - That's how I approached it when I started and so far, so good.
