I own a laptop equipped with Crucial RAM 96GB Kit (two 48GB units). It features DDR5 5600MHz or lower speeds. I recently switched from a 16GB kit with 2x8GB to the 96GB model. I've just purchased a basic MINISFORUM 790S7/129i7 for my living room, replacing my old Xbox. I'm planning to install a compact video card for gaming. I'm considering adding either an 8GB or 48GB stick to each unit or using the full 16GB kit in the Minis forum. The 16GB was insufficient, and I haven't reached half of the 96GB capacity. Seeking advice on the best approach.

Perspectives aren't the issue; a 8GB plus 48GB drive will likely stress your system by forcing it to operate in single-channel mode instead of dual-channel. Your MinisForum should work on 16GB, but expect problems with more storage.

You're still using the Duel Channel for 16GB of memory, but that's unusual for your intended gaming setup. Since you already have an integrated graphics card, it makes sense to test its performance rather than relying on external hardware.

In short, with 56GB of RAM and just 16GB usable in dual-channel mode, you're likely at a disadvantage unless you don't require more than 16GB.

The 40GB of single-channel RAM remains quicker than the page file, regardless of placement. It would also perform better than Optane.

Avoid this purchase. The BD 790i SE offers a better alternative if you're proceeding this way. It's an M.2 motherboard compatible with a full GPU case. Regarding RAM, ensure your sticks match.
