DDR5 5600 128GB (32x4) fails to boot at intended performance with AMD XPO (R9 7950X).
Hey everyone, the name seems different from what I expected—it wasn’t about turning on XPO or XMP for the 7th gen Ryzen. I’m struggling to post updates past DDR5 3600, but I found some info suggesting an updated BIOS could help. There were Reddit discussions mentioning that 128GB RAM might be too much for the memory controller, and others noted recent issues with multiple RAM sticks at high speeds. Anyone have insights? Most of my builds have only gone as far as enabling XMP when troubleshooting. I mostly work with 3D scanning and Unreal Engine 5, which don’t need super fast RAM. I paid a lot for 5600MHz RAM and can’t go above 3600MHz. What’s your take?
3600MT/s represents the maximum officially supported rate for the 7000 series AMD when using four sticks. It's quite low, isn't it? The specifications list this as the top speed for four sticks. Checking the Connectivity section reveals 4xR1 and 4xR2, indicating four sticks of single or dual memory modules (distinct from dual channel). Updating the BIOS is the primary option to enable EXPO. If that fails, consider manually setting the speed and timings—especially with Infinity Fabric, which might require separate adjustments. The best path may be replacing a stick on the QVL with a verified model that supports the desired rate. This isn't assured, as memory makers may use different parts per batch for cost reasons, and the QVL often doesn't disclose the chipmaker or die used. Most mainstream RAM comes from Samsung, SK Hynix, Nanya, or either Micron or Spectec.
I checked around and it looks like these apps don’t really help with speed or memory capacity. I’m just looking for more storage space instead. The 3600 DDR(4) chip was released around 2015, so this came as a bit of a surprise.
Sure. 3600 is the homework info, bios details, and honestly it doesn’t really matter these days, even with task manager. A few folks mentioned for a 4 stick setup it caps at 3600mt/s, which makes sense since it’s below the DDR5 default rate. Yeah, being under that speed feels kind of strange these days.
