I recently bought the G.SKILL Trident Z Royal 3600 with 16-19-19-39 for clock speeds. Lately I've been reading that for speeds above 3200/3600, the RAM speeds don't really make much difference on the Gen 3 Ryzen chips. How much flexibility would I have to adjust these settings? I've seen configurations like 3600 with 16-16-16 and 16-18-18, and I'm looking to tighten them slightly. Essentially, this will be my first time changing RAM settings. I haven't needed them before. However, after reading about the Infinity Fabric and the threshold around 3766, I don't really feel the need to boost the speed. What I want is a bit tighter timing for a small improvement in performance with less delay.
Many users stop at 3600 mainly because they didn’t properly verify the FCLK limit. For timing adjustments, consider sequences like 14-19-17-36, though keep in mind that Hynix CJR dies in your chip, which affects timing stability and limits how far you can go. Simply copying timings won’t work since the dies aren’t identical, resulting in inconsistent performance.
Your schedule might vary significantly from what others have before installing the RAM. Many people check a lot beforehand, and it seems most RAM sticks in the Z Royal line include B-Dies, though you happened to choose one without them.

32GB kits usually come with looser timings, which is common. The 32GB 16-16-16 models tend to be pricier than what most people prefer. If you can confirm they're B-Die compatible, adjusting voltage and SOC voltage might help. However, if they're Hynix-based like the one mentioned by Jurrunio, they usually don't improve much unless operating at lower frequencies—like around 3000MHz for CL12 maybe. That won’t boost bandwidth; it just reduces latency slightly. You’ll likely notice a small difference of about 1.5% (or less) depending on testing methods. For gaming, you probably won’t see a noticeable jump in frame rate—3600fps with 16-19-19 to 16-16-16 won’t make a big impact. If gaming isn’t your main concern, you’ve likely overpaid for the memory required by most games.
I play games, use Blender and Unreal Engine, which is why I chose 32GB. Right now I’m running 16GB, often staying near 90% memory, sometimes reaching 95%. That’s why I upgraded to 32GB for extra space. Additionally, I keep several browser tabs open (about 5-10) and Chrome uses a lot of RAM, so the extra storage helps.
