DDR4 DDR5
DDR4 DDR5
No one compels you, but eventually, new chips will arrive that only work with DDR5, which likely means a different CPU connector. Since current slots don’t support all the required pins for DDR5 memory, you’ll need to replace both the motherboard and the RAM to use the updated processor.
As mentioned before, nobody will push you. Also, the latest CPUs are sufficient for many years. However, in the end, CPUs will only be compatible with DDR5.
DDR5 is clearly superior to DDR4. Have you checked how it functions? It's really impressive technology.
Many folks in the PC hardware space are learning this: just because an upgrade exists doesn’t automatically mean everything else is flawed. The arrival of DDR5 doesn’t imply DDR4 is suddenly bad...
It centers around memory controller improvements, motherboard BIOS support, and related details. DDR5 promises roughly four times the bandwidth compared to previous standards. At launch prices, it will likely be costly, similar to past DDR releases. For the OP, that’s worth considering—DDR3 can still function, right? It’s about staying current. You’re not relying on a first-generation iPhone anymore, are you? It does make a call, doesn’t it?
RAM is only one piece of a larger picture. While DDR5 might become significantly improved, it remains just one component affecting a computer’s overall performance. Probably, DDR5 will gain popularity when paired with specific motherboards. Just as people stop using DDR3 for Z370+ now, RAM upgrades tend to be limited by the system they’re installed in. It’s essentially the next step in RAM technology.
It seems you're comparing DDR to SDR. Would you like to know more about how they relate or what each term means?
