Looking for affordable DDR3 RAM that fits a Z170 with 1.35V support. Either get 8GB or a full 16GB package. Prioritize quality over cheap Chinese brands. OC options around 1866 or a bit higher are available.

1.35v is the typical voltage for DDR4. Are you certain you're using one of the rare Z170 boards that also support DDR3?

I think because my current RAM shows 1.35v on Speccy and the CPU itself shows it supports both ddr4 and ddr3 1.35v: CPU: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/...0-ghz.html RAM: 16ktf1g64az-1g6e1

CPUs are compatible with DDR4 and DDR3, though few boards use DDR3. I haven’t located the specific RAM set you’re looking for; the nearest options are DDR3 SODIMMs (often found in laptops) or DDR3L (the low-power variant, which runs at 1.35v). Could you share the motherboard model? The original manufacturer’s documentation should list the exact RAM support.

Great! You should be fine with regular DDR3 units, especially those from the latest QVL list from December 2016. There are many standard kits available, and even higher voltages like 1.65V are offered. I’d just search for a reliable used DDR3 unit unless you spot a better deal elsewhere, as older models are often overpriced now. I’ve worked with second-hand DDR3 multiple times without any problems.

Voltage for DDR3 isn't crucial if you're planning to overclock. However, I'm curious about whether certain boards might completely fail to work with 1.5V DDR3 since they aren't designed to handle that level even with manual adjustments.
