Are these two titles still worth playing? They emphasize a strong narrative and the importance of community. Since neither offers a compelling story, it seems the focus is on the group dynamics. It appears the community sometimes affects the experience for new players. I notice many YouTube videos showing chaotic interactions where strangers engage in unusual behavior, sometimes with inappropriate conduct. Plus, the game development is extremely slow. What are your thoughts?

Consider a game that's been tested in alpha throughout its entire sales process—purchase DayZ. Alternatively, if you're drawn to the concept of men in the field with rocks nearby, opt for Rust.

I don't have access to current updates about DayZ's development timeline. You might want to check the official DayZ website or their social media channels for the latest information on when they plan to release it in beta.

That game really stands out to me. It's incredibly engaging and can become quite intense. I've only played it once before meeting many people online, but we had a great time together. You really need to learn how to prepare beforehand, but if you enjoy zombie-themed challenges and suspenseful moments, it's a solid choice. It's also said to increase in value as it progresses through different stages, making it worthwhile to purchase now and explore it further.

The game is a solid reason for me to upgrade my gaming PC, and I’m thinking about getting one this holiday season or early 2015. If you’re interested and want to wait, feel free to join me—we could play the game then.

Sure, I understand. I built a gaming rig on a budget and am currently putting it together, so my setup won't be finished until around December. I’ll definitely play with you then!

Rust: they're starting fresh with the game completely. AFIK DayZ Standalone doesn't have enough content to revisit, I haven't played it much in the past three months. The DayZ Arma 2 mod offers a lot more, with several popular mods and a strong community. Overwatch, Overpoch, Epoch, Origins, and more all provide a richer experience than Standalone, which feels like it's just barely getting off the ground after nearly a year. The Breaking Point mod for Arma 3 is also a much better choice in terms of gameplay, weapons, and ongoing updates. Standalone is the one I wish I hadn't bought after playing it for almost two years with friends.

I actually purchased both titles and wish I hadn’t. They haven’t progressed much beyond release, which feels quite let down given how long they’ve been available. I wouldn’t suggest investing in them, particularly since games like H1Z1 are coming soon and already offer many features we’re eager for in DayZ—plus they’ll be free to play. Don’t forget the engine behind DayZ is rather lacking.

I fully grasp the mod from the community, but transitioning from a standalone version to the mod felt really challenging. The installation process was frustrating, and the wait before I could play it fully added to the disappointment.

I’ve moved away from DayZ and started playing Wasteland. It feels similar but much more approachable. If you’re into horror, the forest is the way to go—it really sends chills down your spine.
