Find ways to run dayZ smoothly without lag. Your setup includes an i5-4440 and GTX 970, which causes issues at low settings. You worked around it by using medium settings with your GTX 650.

No, I did not set the power plan to high performance.

DayZ could work more smoothly on older cards. I face a similar issue with my i5 4590 instead of the 4440.

Ensure your drivers are current in case you attempt downgrading, as newer versions can cause issues with older games like Black Desert.

Dayz has always been a laggy game, regardless of setup. Some people suffer with HUGE lag, some people don't. It's just a POORLEY optimised game I'm afraid

Explore the experimental track. The performance is significantly improved. In your Steam library, right-click on DayZ, navigate to Betas, and select experimental to start playing.

It worked smoothly on my older GTX 770/FX 6350 now that I'm using an i5 4460 and 970. Even at the lowest settings, it runs very fast.

The Well Stable Dayz version isn't running well because of poor optimization—it's not your PC problem, it's the game's performance issues. Try the 0.60 Experimental setting, and you'll see better FPS improvements.
