The older HDDs can have problems or simply be outdated. If the drive is functioning properly, just transfer the files. Defragmentation won’t be duplicated, so it’s not necessary. If there are issues, create an image with ddrescue and then extract the needed files.

They’re quite worn out and may have experienced some slips occasionally. I haven’t relied on them recently. Capacity options include 240GB, 500GB, and 1TB with a 5400RPM drive.

Create an image using ddrescue first, then mount it and transfer files from the image.
