Hello, I recently attempted to configure my gaming PC for streaming games to my laptop so I could access my files and games anywhere. However, I encountered problems getting Wake on LAN (WoL) functional. Here’s what I did: turned on “Wake on PCI-E” on my B550 motherboard, enabled port forwarding using UDP, forced USB power delivery in sleep mode (tested), disabled the Wi-Fi adapter to save energy, and activated “Allow to wake PC” plus related magic packet settings. After connecting with my public IP and MAC address it failed. Switching to my local IP on the same network also didn’t work (I tried three different apps). I’m unsure if my TP-Link USB U4E Archer supports WoL, as no WoL options appeared, but a Realtek PCI-E controller was detected and all adapter-related steps were executed through it. Could anyone assist with this issue? Thanks!

To pinpoint the problem, send WoL packets from another device on the same local network. If successful, concentrate on fixing the public IP or remote access part of the configuration.

Visit the router's interface from another device and verify whether the PC is connected to the network during shutdown or in the intended disconnection mode.

I searched for UDP traffic from your laptop with Wireshark, but didn’t see any results. It’s possible the method wasn’t correct or the data isn’t being captured properly.

I attempted that but your device isn't visible.

It seems your connection isn't working over Wi-Fi. Try using a wired Ethernet connection instead.

Avoid opening ports for WOL—it's a major security risk. A better approach is to add another device inside your network (like a Raspberry Pi) and connect remotely using tools such as TeamViewer or SSH. Connecting a service meant for internal use to the internet can open you up to serious vulnerabilities. Also, WOL over WiFi isn't recommended.
